BTAC 143 - Medical/Legal Aspects of Health InformationCredits: 5 Provides an overview of law and ethics in the healthcare setting including employees’ and providers’ duties and responsibilities. Major topics include health information systems used to identify, file, and store patient health information, patient and healthcare recordkeeping, different types of data, sources, and use and users of data. Applies the general principles of law as related to health information. Emphasizes regulations regarding protected health information, patient privacy, and patient confidentiality.
Prerequisite: BTAC 142 with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or instructor’s permission.
