MATH& 153 - Calculus III Credits: 5 The third course of a four-quarter calculus sequence. Introduces students to sequences, series, and higher-dimensional space. Topics include convergence tests; vectors; analytic geometry; vector-valued functions. Graphing calculator required.
Prerequisite: MATH& 152 with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or appropriate math placement.
Satisfies Requirement: Natural Science and Quantitative Skills
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Find limits of sequences.
- Apply basic convergence tests for series.
- Find or approximate the sums of convergent series.
- Represent functions as power series.
- Use Taylor polynomials to approximate functions.
- Apply dot and cross products to applications involving geometry and science.
- Write equations of lines and planes using vectors.
- Recognize basic three dimensional surfaces such as paraboloids, hyperboloids, and ellipsoids.
- Determine domain and limits for vector-valued functions.
- Compute and apply the derivative and antiderivative of a vector function.
