ACCT 110 - Practical Accounting 1

Credits: 5
Elementary course covering the complete accounting cycle for service businesses, including the basic functions of analyzing, classifying, recording, and summarizing accounting data.  Topics may include journals, ledgers, worksheets, adjusting entries, financial statement preparation, payables, and banking procedures.

Enrollment Requirement: Eligible for READ 104  or instructor consent.

Course Fee: $10.00

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Analyze, record and post business transactions, adjusting entries and closing entries, using a general journal, special journals, a general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.

  2. Prepare trial balances, worksheets, bank reconciliations and financial schedules and statements.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of accounting and business operations and the ability to correctly use common accounting vocabulary.
  2. Analyze and record business transactions and activities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  3. Perform bookkeeping/accounting procedures required in entry- or intermediate-level bookkeeping/accounting positions.
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking, analytical and quantitative skills in problem solving, decision making, and responsibility by completing assignments independently and/or as a dependable team member.
