Provides an overview of basic fingerprint identification and its application in the criminal justice system. Students learn proper techniques for recording fingerprints, classifying based on the Henry Classification System, fundamentals of evidence collection and processing. Examines legal challenges and courtroom testimony.

Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Identify basic concepts and knowledge of the science of fingerprints.
Understand the Henry Classification Formula.
Compare inked prints accurately.
Recognize different techniques of print recognition, evidence preservation, AFIS, and current trends in the industry.
Apply symbolic reasoning and logic to understanding print comparison and evidence gathering techniques.
