JAPN& 221 - Japanese IV

A direct continuation of JAPN& 123 . The focus of the course is the systematic study of Japanese vocabulary, grammar and kanji using the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Attained communicative competency can be applied to interactions with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds and native speakers in classroom and real-world situations.

Enrollment Requirement:

JAPN& 123  with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or instructor consent. Eligible for ENGL 99 . The equivalent of JAPN& 123  is three years in high school with a grade of B or higher.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

1. Use hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
2. Discuss advice and suggestions.
3. Discuss requests and permission in formal situations.
4. Discuss future plans with the volitional form and conditionals.
5. Describe resultant state and results of intentional actions with intransitive and transitive verbs.
