NURSE 127 - Safety, Basic Life Support and Infection Control

Provides education and training in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillation (AED), and bag-mask valve techniques for individuals who are responsible for delivering emergency care. Taught according to American Heart Association guidelines for Health Care Providers. An American Heart Association Health Care Provider card will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. Also provides education and training for health care providers on safety and infection control measures.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Identify the major signs and symptoms of choking of ages throughout the life span.
Describe and demonstrate the major elements of Basic Life Support through demonstration of effective CPR and use of an AED.
State the standard precautions used to prevent transmission of blood-borne pathogens such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis C.
Identify clinical manifestations of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B & C, tuberculosis, influenza, MRSA, C. diff and Covid-19.
Describe important infection prevention practices and strategies that can be utilized as a healthcare provider.
Apply the chain of infection model to various infectious pathogens.
