Covers theory, performance, and interpretation of basic wastewater laboratory procedures used to assess water quality. Topics include safety, total solids, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, pH, fecal coliform, and chlorine residual.

Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Define terms as they apply to basic wastewater laboratory testing.
Safe conduct and handling of equipment and chemicals.
Identify lab equipment, chemicals, glassware.
Demonstrate understanding of basic wastewater laboratory practices.
Perform basic wastewater laboratory testing.
Perform calculations related to basic wastewater laboratory testing.

Identify characteristics of wastewater conveyed and treated in municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Monitor, evaluate, operate and maintain common types of equipment found in municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Apply appropriate safety procedures to operation of municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Collect samples for, perform and interpret results of basic laboratory analyses used to monitor municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
