BUS& 201 - Business Law and the Regulation of Business

Credits: 5
Focuses on business law and the regulation of business activities. Emphasizes contracts, the uniform commercial code, sales and secured transactions, bankruptcy, and third party contract rights. Illustrates concepts using the case method presentation approach.

Enrollment Requirement: Eligible for ENGL 99 ; or instructor consent.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Display a working knowledge of business law in society, and the factors that affect the evolution of those laws over time.
  2. Analyze the basic legal concepts and selected areas of law affecting business transactions, including the process of resolving claims. 
  3. Recognize ethical issues in business and the legal implications.
  4. Demonstrate awareness of the fundamental concepts of contracts, the Uniform Commercial Code, third-party contracts, performance, breach, and the remedies available for breach. 
  5. Demonstrate an ability to articulate the specific holdings and reasoning in given assigned cases
