MATH 31 - Support Course for MATH& 141

Credits: 2
Support course for MATH& 141  that covers pre-college topics needed in MATH& 141 - PreCalculus I . The course must be taken concurrently with MATH& 141 . Study of factoring, exponents, complex fractions, graphing, linear equations, linear inequalities, quadratic equations, literal equations, graphing calculator, and study skills strategies. This is a pass/no credit course.

Enrollment Requirement: MATH 97  with a grade of 2.0 or higher, or appropriate math placement; and concurrent enrollment in MATH& 141 . Recommended: READ 104 , ENGL 97  

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Factor polynomials.
  2. Simplify expressions using exponent rules.
  3. Solve linear inequalities.
  4. Simplify complex fractions.
  5. Graph linear and quadratic functions.
  6. Find the equation of a line.
  7. Solve literal and quadratic equations.
  8. Perform basic functions on a graphing calculator.
  9. Describe study skills strategies.

  1. Recognize which quantitative or symbolic reasoning methods are appropriate for solving a given problem. 
  2. Correctly implement the quantitative or symbolic reasoning methods that are appropriate for solving a given problem.
