Carpentry Technology-Framing Level 1 Certificate

This certificate prepares students with the basic skills and knowledge required to find employment with specialty or general contractors whose focus is residential and/or light commercial framing (i.e., floors, walls, truss roofs, light metal framing, etc.). Students develop basic skills in print reading, wall layout, assembly and erecting of floors, walls and truss roof systems, WISHA/OSHA safety regulations and code requirements relating to framing. In addition, students learn portable power tool usage designed specifically to framing structures as well as framing material knowledge and specifications. This certificate also meets three of the CEATT (Carpenters Employers Apprenticeship Training Trust) Preferred Enrollment and Advance Placement requirements.

Program Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:
- Be employed as a carpenter helper or a union carpentry apprenticeship program.
- Demonstrate efficiency, safety, and accuracy in the completion of carpentry tasks.
- Use all basic hand and power tools related to carpentry.
- Form and pour a typical foundation for a basic home.
- Frame the wooden structure for a basic single-story home.
- Install all basic interior trim components for a home.
- Install all basic exterior trim components for a home.
- Read and interpret basic architectural residential prints
- Calculate, layout and install basic stairs and components.
- Calculate, install and sheath typical stick-framed roof structures.
- Build a basic kitchen base cabinet to within 1/32” of all given dimensions
- Form and pour typical concrete slabs.
- Estimate materials and supplies to build a basic single story residential home.
