This three-class program is designed for students enrolled in Machining and Manufacturing Technology, CAD-Design and Engineering Technology, Maintenance Mechatronics and other related courses/programs of study such as Fine Arts or Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. The Additive Manufacturing Tech. Certificate will also benefit current the manufacturing and engineering employee who wishes to learn more about the emerging fields of Additive and Hybrid-Manufacturing, supplying them with the knowledge and skills currently in demand by employers.

Upon completion of this certificate, the students are prepared for entry into industry as an Additive Manufacturing system operator. Instruction covers; Selecting the proper material based on prototype form and function. Accurately measuring printed parts using precision tools such as calipers and micrometers. Apply Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) skills learned to the operation of a 3D printer to reduce cycle time. Application of variable equipment and software setups to reduce post-processing and material waste. How to select print configurations to improve print quality and dimensional stability.  How to process parts to comply with engineering, client and blueprint requirements.  Other subjects include Shop Safety (personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tag-out procedures, Hazard Communication Standards (HCS), and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Orthogonal Coordinate System, Cartesian Coordinate System.

Entry into the program is at the start of any quarter on a space-available basis with instructor’s permission. Classes are sequenced MFG 107 , MFG 108  then MFG 109 , however, students with an additive manufacturing background may be granted entry by the instructor.
