Develops skills in using techniques for writing poetry (metaphor and simile, use of diction, irony, imagery, sound, and structure) and develops skills in using techniques for writing fiction (generating ideas; controlling viewpoint; and exploring development of theme, tone, symbols, and style).

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Refine skills around writing fiction and poetry that were developed in ENGL& 236 .
Build skills to submit poetry and short stories for publication in literary journals.
Develop critical analysis skills and aesthetic appreciation in regard to reading and producing creative writing.
