HIST 122 - History of Australian Movies

Examines the emergence of a unique Australian cinema during the early decades of the 20th century, the struggle to maintain independence from the Hollywood and British film industry, and the development of an internationally recognized Australian style in the later decades of the 20th century.

Enrollment Requirement: Eligible for ENGL 99 or instructor consent.

Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Discuss the historical development of the film industry in Australia.
Identify and provide examples of a uniquely Australian cinema.
Critically and aesthetically evaluate Australian cinema within the context of Australian film, Hollywood films, and World Cinema.
Place specific Australian films within the historical context of the development of a unique Australian cinema.
