MATH 96 - Intermediate Algebra in Context

Credits: 5
Studies functions and function notation; graphs and solutions of linear and quadratic equations; solutions of radical, simple exponential, and simple logarithmic equations; numerical n^th roots; mean, median, mode, bar graphs and charts. Graphing calculator required. This course is intended for students planning to take MATH& 146, MATH& 107, MATH 108 and MATH& 171. This course will not meet the prerequisite for MATH& 141 and MATH 147.

Enrollment Requirement: MATH 72 with a 2.5 or higher or appropriate math placement.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Use function notation and terminology with equations and graphs.
Solve equations, involving linear, quadratic, radical, exponential, and logarithmic equations.
Solve linear and quadratic applications, including using regression.
Calculate the mean, median, and mode, and analyze bar graphs and charts.
