MATH 96 - Intermediate Algebra in Context Credits: 5 Studies functions and function notation; graphs and solutions of linear and quadratic equations; solutions of radical, simple exponential, and simple logarithmic equations; numerical nth roots; mean, median, mode, bar graphs and charts. Graphing calculator required. This course is intended for students planning to take MATH& 146 , MATH& 107 , MATH 108 and MATH& 171 . This course will not meet the prerequisite for MATH& 141 and MATH 147 .
Enrollment Requirement: MATH 72 with a 2.5 or higher or appropriate math placement.
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Use function notation and terminology with equations and graphs.
- Solve equations, involving linear, quadratic, radical, exponential, and logarithmic equations.
- Solve linear and quadratic applications, including using regression.
- Calculate the mean, median, and mode, and analyze bar graphs and charts.

- Recognize which quantitative or symbolic reasoning methods are appropriate for solving a given problem.
- Correctly implement the quantitative or symbolic reasoning methods that are appropriate for solving a given problem.
