JAPN& 222 - Japanese V

A direct continuation of JAPN& 221 . The focus of the course is the systematic study of Japanese vocabulary, grammar and kanji using the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Attained communicative competency can be applied to interactions with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds and native speakers in classroom and real-world situations.

Enrollment Requirement:

JAPN& 221  with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or instructor consent. Eligible for ENGL 99 . The equivalent of JAPN& 221  is four years in high school with a grade of B or higher.

Satisfies Requirement: Humanities/Fine Arts/English

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Use hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
  2. Discuss hypothetical situations and natural consequences with conditionals.
  3. Express giving and receiving depending on perspective and social status.
  4. Describe negative feelings caused by an event with passive speech.
  5. Express conjecture based on direct or indirect evidence.
