BIOL& 212 - Majors Animal Credits: 6 Surveys the animal kingdom in the context of evolution, taxonomic classification, and comparative anatomy and physiology. Focuses on selected representatives of the animal kingdom. Laboratory portion of this class corresponds to selected lecture topics, and provides hands-on experience. Stresses independent laboratory work. Successful students apply their understanding of the principles taught to new situations.
Enrollment Requirement: BIOL& 211 with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or instructor consent.

Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Summarize the evolutionary implications of phylogenetic relationships.
- Describe key evolutionary concepts and mechanisms.
- List major taxonomic categories of the Kingdom Animalia.
- Describe key traits of the taxonomic categories.
- Describe the comparative anatomy and physiology of selected representatives of the animal kingdom.
- Explain the evolutionary adaptations in animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior.
Program Outcomes Recognize how scientists use the Scientific Method to guide their inquiry, generate hypotheses, experimental design, reasoning, and draw conclusions based on empirical data.
