JOURN 156 - Sports Broadcasting and Play-by-Play Announcing Credits: 3 This course immerses students in the dynamic world of sports broadcasting and play-by-play announcing, cultivating a deep appreciation for the art and science of broadcast and digital media. Emphasizing voice quality, articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation, students receive hands-on guidance to refine their skills. The curriculum covers the nuances of sports announcing for television, radio, and digital platforms.
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Recognize the essential qualities of a successful sports broadcast professional and integrate them into their own sports media work.
- Analyze the historical evolution of sports broadcast announcing and its relevance in contemporary media landscapes.
- Apply techniques to manage and overcome performance anxiety specific to sports broadcasting and play-by-play.
- Develop effective bullet points and scripts tailored for sports broadcasting contexts.
