NRS A 103 - Nurse Assistant Lab

Credits: 3
Students apply knowledge and develop the physical skills necessary to provide entry level nurse assistant care in the laboratory setting. Includes integrating communication and patient care skills, assisting with activities of daily living, practicing client rights and confidentiality, infection control and proper documentation in the health care setting. Students will engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their ability to practice safe, culturally competent, patient-centered care while incorporating principles of restorative nursing. Previously NRS A 111.

Enrollment Requirement: Instructor permission.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Practice safe, culturally competent, patient-centered care to clients.
  2. Incorporate principles and skills of restorative nursing in providing care.
  3. Identify behaviors that are respectful of client rights and promote client independence.
  4. Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively as a member of a health care team, including the use of effective communication skills.
  5. Perform basic nursing skills accurately and safely while identifying and demonstrating procedures and techniques that prevent the spread of microorganisms.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to identify and use safety and emergency procedures.
  7. Practice within the legal/ethical scope of practice and responsibility of a nursing assistant.
