Data analysts collect, transform, analyze, and visualize data to communicate results that inform and guide decision making. The Data Analytics and Software Development program prepares students to become data practitioners. The program also delivers a strong foundation for students planning on continuing their education in the Information Technology-Software Development, BAS  (applied baccalaureate), Marketing and Entrepreneurship, BAS , or Applied Management, BAS  degree programs at Green River College.

Program Outcomes:


Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:

  1. Solve data-related problems using a programming language.
  2. Extract data from a database using a relational database language.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to acquire, clean, and prepare data for analysis.
  4. Perform basic data analysis techniques such as filtering, aggregation, and joins.
  5. Produce and interpret data visualizations to describe, explore, and communicate insights from data.
  6. Understand and demonstrate basic programming and database constructs.
  7. Create a portfolio using web technologies to showcase their project artifacts.

Software Development Focus


The software development focus provides students exposure to computer science fundamentals using Java and prepares students for continued study in the Information Technology-Software Development, BAS  program.

Business Management Focus


The business management focus provides students exposure to a common application of data analytics and prepares students for continued study in the Applied Management, BAS  program or in the Marketing and Entrepreneurship, BAS  program.

Electives (10 credits)


  • Ten credits of any college courses numbered 100 or higher.
