AVIA 190 - Air Traffic Control Technologies Credits: 5 A comprehensive overview of the technologies, systems, facilities, documentation, and procedures used by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to manage the National Airspace System (NAS). Topics include ADS-B, CPDLC, Required Navigation Performance (RNP), Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs), as well as ATC flight plan filings, clearances, and flight strips.
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Gain a clear understanding of the structure and functions of the FAA, the NAS, and the Traffic Management (TM) system.
- Analyze and interpret FAA procedures, documentation, orders, and notices.
- Explain the purpose and operational characteristics of ATC facilities, radar systems, ADS-B, and separation standards for both VFR and IFR operations.
- Identify key aircraft categories, weight classes, designators, and performance characteristics, including associated hazards.
- Recognize the interconnectedness of regulations, systems, and procedures that support ATC airspace management and communication protocols.
