MTX 100 - Mechatronics Technician 1

Credits: 1-13
Introduction and hands-on experience with fundamental hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Students acquire industry and workplace safety standards and practices, as well as essential interpersonal communication skills. Basic computer skills are highly recommended: Windows, Internet, and Email.

Enrollment Requirement: Eligible for MATH 70  or above.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Identify basic hydraulic components and explain their functions.
  2. Build and test basic industry-specific hydraulic circuits.
  3. Read, write, and explain basic hydraulic schematics.
  4. Identify basic pneumatic components and their functions.
  5. Build and test basic industry-specific pneumatic circuits.
  6. Read, write, and explain basic pneumatic schematics.

Program Outcomes
  1. Apply electrical and electronic theory to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize industrial control circuits using compliant wiring methods, VFDs, and PLCs.
  2. Design, assemble, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, applying fluid power principles, safety standards, and contamination control practices.
  3. Program, integrate, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems to control industrial processes using structured programming and networked communication protocols.
  4. Perform mechanical alignment, installation, and preventive maintenance of drive systems, bearings, and actuators using precision tools and documentation.
  5. Apply OSHA/WISHA and NFPA safety standards to identify, control, and document electrical, mechanical, and fluid power hazards in the workplace.
  6. Demonstrate effective teamwork, communication, and professional conduct, producing technical documentation, presentations, and project reports.
