SOC 214 - Sociology of Race and Ethnicity Credits: 5 Overview of major sociological perspectives in the study of race and ethnicity in society, including group relations, social stratification, and social change. Students survey theories, data, and sociohistorical/cultural processes useful for better understanding today’s social world. Emphasis is placed on using sociological scholarship to solve modern racial dilemmas. Cross-listed with AMES 214 .

Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Explain how the concept of race has been socially constructed over time.
- Explain how racial inequalities have been institutionalized throughout society.
- Identify the impacts of racial inequalities on different groups of people.
