MATH 39 - Support Course for MATH 109

Credits: 2
Support course for MATH 109  that covers pre-college topics needed in MATH 109 - Mathematical Models in Gaming . The course must be taken concurrently with MATH 109 . Study of functions, formulas, fractions, percents, exponents, roots, linear equations, and study skills strategies. This is a pass/no credit course.

Enrollment Requirement: MATH 72  or TS/TS-OD 57 with a 2.5 or higher, or appropriate math placement; and concurrent enrollment in MATH 109 . Recommended: READ 104 , ENGL 97  

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Identify values in applications and use them to evaluate formulas.  
  2. Give the definition of a function and interpret function notation.  
  3. Use order of operations to evaluate expressions including those with fractions, integer exponents, and square roots. 
  4. Solve linear equations.   
  5. Calculate with and convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages.    
  6. Describe study skills strategies.

  1. Recognize which quantitative or symbolic reasoning methods are appropriate for solving a given problem.
  2. Correctly implement the quantitative or symbolic reasoning methods that are appropriate for solving a given problem.
  3. Translate data into various formats such as symbolic language, equations, graphs, and formulas.
