OTA 103 - Applied Anatomy and Kinesiology Lab

Credits: 2
Application of concepts learned in OTA 102 . Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the function of the human body to include applied concepts related to anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics with an emphasis on material related to the practice of occupational therapy across diverse clientele and practice settings. Client factors, body functions and body structures related to movement are studied as they affect performance in areas of occupation.

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in OTA 102 ; and instructor’s permission.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the human body to include the biological and physical sciences. Course content includes, but is not limited to, biology, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology or biomechanics. Knowledge will be demonstrated through a student’s ability to:
    • Describe anatomical segments, features, and movements using correct terminology.
    • Identify the names and locations of selected bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves, and tendons of the body.

      • Insertions
      • Origins
  2. Estimate gross anatomical muscle structures through palpation of selected anatomic landmarks and surface anatomy.
  3. Describe the components of human movement and function from an anatomic and biomechanical perspective.

Program Outcomes

College-wide Outcomes
  • Critical Thinking - Critical thinking finds expression in all disciplines and everyday life. It is characterized by an ability to reflect upon thinking patterns, including the role of emotions on thoughts, and to rigorously assess the quality of thought through its work products. Critical thinkers routinely evaluate thinking processes and alter them, as necessary, to facilitate an improvement in their thinking and potentially foster certain dispositions or intellectual traits over time.
  • Responsibility - Responsibility encompasses those behaviors and dispositions necessary for students to be effective members of a community. This outcome is designed to help students recognize the value of a commitment to those responsibilities which will enable them to work successfully individually and with others.
