OTA 103 - Applied Anatomy and Kinesiology Lab

Application of concepts learned in OTA 102. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the function of the human body to include applied concepts related to anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics with an emphasis on material related to the practice of occupational therapy across diverse clientele and practice settings. Client factors, body functions and body structures related to movement are studied as they affect performance in areas of occupation.

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in OTA 102; and instructor’s permission.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the human body to include the biological and physical sciences. Course content includes, but is not limited to, biology, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology or biomechanics. Knowledge will be demonstrated through a student’s ability to:
- Describe anatomical segments, features, and movements using correct terminology.
- Identify the names and locations of selected bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves, and tendons of the body.
- Describe the following for selected muscles and muscle groups.
  - Actions
  - Innervations
  - Insertions
  - Origins
Estimate gross anatomical muscle structures through palpation of selected anatomic landmarks and surface anatomy.
Describe the components of human movement and function from an anatomic and biomechanical perspective.
