OTA 121 - Developmental Disabilities 1 Lab Credits: 2 Lab allows for practical experience in patient screening tools, standardized assessment, and activity treatment interventions as it relates to developmental disabilities.
Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in OTA 120 ; and instructor’s permission.
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to use screening tools, interviews and skilled observation to gather information with other professionals in assessing child’s developmental performance.
- Demonstrates application of occupational therapy frame of reference as it relates to developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to develop preparatory activities and treatment interventions for clients with a variety of pediatric conditions, as related to content covered in concurrent lecture course.
- Demonstrates novice competency with administration of standardized assessments.
- Students will assist with the development of occupation-based intervention plans and strategies based on goals provided and stated needs of the child with a disability.The intervention plan will reflect on the occupational profile, client factors, performance patterns and context, while addressing performance skills of the client.

- Discuss the basic tenets of occupational therapy.
- Conduct and document a screening and evaluation process.
- Intervene and implement occupational therapy processes.
- Assist in the management of occupational therapy services.
