MUSC 261 - Songwriting and Music Composition 5

A continuation of MUSC 260  with additional study of intermediate songwriting and music composition techniques. Students will continue to analyze musical works and study composition techniques to create their own music.

Enrollment Requirement: MUSC 260  with a grade of 2.0 or higher.

  Recommended: MUSC& 133  and MUSC& 123

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

1. Analyze music using intermediate music theory knowledge. (Assignments, Projects)

2. Compose music using historical and contemporary composition techniques (Assignments, Projects)

3. Research and explain relevant events and historical trends in the development of songwriting and music composition (Assignments)
4. Research and explain terms and concepts related to songwriting and music composition (Assignments, Presentation)
5. Apply intermediate and some advanced computer music skills to professional music software. (Projects)

1. Demonstrate knowledge of historical genres and styles beyond current trends in Music. This will be assessed through assignments.
2. Demonstrate a deeper understanding of musical experience through active engagement with critical listening and discourse. This will be assessed through assignments.
