Associate in Arts-DTA with Concentration in Asian Studies Curriculum Map


Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary field of academic study that focuses on the diverse cultures, societies, languages, histories, and contemporary issues of Asia. The interdisciplinary nature of Asian Studies encourages a holistic approach to studying Asia and its global significance. Many employers value the skills gained in Asian Studies, such as cross-cultural communication, adaptability, and a global perspective. Networking, internships, and gaining practical experience during your studies can enhance your employability in these diverse fields. Additionally, pursuing further specialization or combining Asian Studies with other disciplines, such as business, law, or technology, can create unique career pathways. Career paths for graduates with a background in Asian Studies include but are not limited to diplomacy, business and trade, NGOs, journalism and media, teaching and education, tourism and hospitality, translation and interpretation, and technology.

  • If a student has completed one year of Japanese in high school, they can start with JAPN& 122.
  • If a student has completed two years of Japanese in high school, they can start with JAPN& 123.
  • If a student has completed three years of Japanese in high school, they can start with JAPN& 221, but would also need to complete at least JAPN& 222 to fulfill the sequential language course requirement.
  • If a student has completed four years of Japanese in high school, they can start with JAPN& 222, but would also need to complete JAPN& 223 to fulfill the sequential language course requirement.
