FRCH& 121 - French I Credits: 5 Begins the systematic study of French with an emphasis on speaking and listening. Includes basic grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and conversation practice. Students acquire basic knowledge of the diversity of the French speaking world, its history, and cultures.
Prerequisite: No previous background in French, or no more than one year of high school French, or no more than two years of high school French with a “C” average or less; and eligible for ENGL 099 .
Satisfies Requirement: Humanities/Fine Arts/English
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Distinguish between formal (F) and informal (I) greetings, introductions and questions.
- Use major regular and irregular verbs to communicate preference, origin, adjectives, personal belongings, family, work, and climate.
- Use three verb groups -ER, -IR, -RE present tense regular & irregular verbs in written and oral.
- Differentiate between present and immediate future in written and oral.
- Use language and intercultural skills to communicate with native speakers of French.
Program Outcomes Analyze cultural perspectives and values of a multicultural world.
