MATH 106 - Essentials of Pre-Calculus Mathematics Credits: 5 Study of polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; algebraic combinations of functions, composition of functions, transformation of functions, and inverse functions. Additional topics may include complex numbers, polar coordinates, and parametric equations. Graphing calculator required.
Prerequisite: Appropriate math placement.
Satisfies Requirement: Natural Science and Quantitative Skills
Course Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:
- Understand and use function notation and terminology.
- Perform operations with combinations and compositions of functions as well as inverse functions.
- Analyze graphical behavior of functions, including transformations.
- Graph and identify important properties of piecewise, power, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
- Graph and understand the properties of trigonometric functions and their inverse functions.
- Apply the triangle definitions of the trigonometric functions.
- Apply trigonometric identities.
- Solve equations and application problem.
