NURSE 127 - AIDS/CPR Safety/Infection Control

Credits: 2
Provides education and training in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillation (AED), and bag-mask valve techniques for individuals who are responsible for delivering emergency care. Taught according to American Heart Association guidelines for Health Care Providers. An American Heart Association Health Care Provider card will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. Also provides education and training for health care providers of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) including: medical aspects, epidemiology, transmission, prevention, and treatment.

Course Outcomes:

Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Identify the signs and symptoms of heart and brain attack.

  2. State the elements in the chain of survival for heart and brain attack.

  3. Identify the major signs and symptoms of choking of ages throughout the life span.

  4. Describe and demonstrate the major elements of CPR.

  5. Describe and demonstrate the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

  6. Define human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

  7. State the standard precautions used to prevent transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

  8. Identify individuals at risk for HIV and describe testing methods.

  9. Identify clinical manifestations of HIV/AIDS.
