TS 062 - Language Arts in Social Studies Level 2

Credits: 5-10
Introduces Level 2 students to the basic principles of civics and government, US history, economics, geography, or current world problems. Students practice critical reading skills in the context of social studies-related texts. Students demonstrate analysis and understanding of social studies readings and concepts through the writing process.

Prerequisite: Appropriate placement and instructor’s permission.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a social studies text.
Determine and summarize the organization structure and supporting details of a social studies text.
Analyze how social studies texts make connections between ideas or compare and contrast facts.
Use the writing process to convey ideas, concepts, explanations & research ideas with clear evidence.
Use technology to produce and publish writing.
