Further provides the students with the manual skills and technical knowledge that is required by the industry to pass various specialized welding tests and to meet industry certification standards. Students increase their level of proficiency in each welding process.

Prerequisite: Instructor’s permission.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Apply basic shop safety.
Properly use heavy shop equipment.
Learn the theory of the GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) process.
Be proficient in the GTAW process in all positions.
Identify and perform fillet and groove welds in all positions.
Pursue shop certification in the GTAW process.
Understand weld procedures (WPS) for the various positions.
Be familiar with machine polarity and machine operation.
Weld ferrous and non-ferrous material.

Program Outcomes

Work as an industry standard trade welder.
Demonstrate OSHA and WISHA standards for safety in the workplace.
Use multiple welding processes in all positions.
Identify the cause and effect of various welding processes per welding procedure (WPS).
Understand basic theory of welding and the related equipment.
Conform to AWS and WABO qualification procedures.
