MTX 140 - Mechatronics Technician 5

Credits: 1-13
Introduction to PLC programming though instruction and hands-on application of PLC simulation software. Students will gain knowledge and skills in PLC programming and AC motor drives. Students acquire industry and workplace safety standards and practices, as well as essential interpersonal communication skills. Basic computer skills are highly recommended: Windows, Internet, and Email.

Enrollment Requirement: MTX 130 with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or instructor consent.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Identify and understand the use of PLC components and their functions.
Perform basic PLC programming.
Explain and use the ladder logic method of programming.
Explain other PLC programming languages.
Identify and use AC Motor Drives.
Identify and use AC Variable Frequency Drives.

Work as a mechatronics technician.
Demonstrate OSHA and WISHA standards for safety in the workplace.
Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic industrial equipment.
Explain the consequences of failure to comply with company and basic safety principles.
