CS 122 - Computer Programming 2 - Java Objects

Credits: 5
Computer programming for students with some previous programming experience. Emphasizes program design, style, and decomposition. Topics covered include object oriented programming, introduction to memory models, inheritance, polymorphic behavior and the use of data structure interfaces. All within the Java programming language system.

Enrollment Requirement: CS 121  with grade of 1.0 or higher; or Instructor verification of prior programming experience.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Explain the philosophy of object-oriented design and the concepts of encapsulation, abstraction, inheritance, and polymorphism. 
  2. Employ advanced inheritance concepts in programming to link common data types together and simplify their construction. 
  3. Create and use abstract classes in programming applications to solve computer science problems. 
  4. Solve computer science problems using java collection classes, interfaces and methods.
  5. Design, implement, and test the implementation of relationships among objects using a class hierarchy and inheritance.

  2. Solve multi-step problems in physical analysis.

  4. Design meaningful experiments and clearly report their conclusions.
