The Paraeducator State Certificate is part of the Washington State “Stackable Certificates” and is the second step in preparing students for a job as a Paraeducator. This certificate includes college-level General-Education courses in addition to the job-specific courses. Based on the Washington State Paraeducator standards, it is designed to further build upon the technical skills required for employment as a Paraeducator within educational settings. Core competencies covered in this certificate prepare the Paraeducator to effectively support and extend instruction and services, thereby increasing student learning. These core competencies revolve around the areas of instructional strategies, behavior management, and human growth and development. The coursework is offered fully online as well as face-to-face, drawing on the expertise of local professionals and schools. This certificate can transfer directly into the Paraeducator Associate in Applied Science - Transfer degree (AAS-T).
