Civil Computer-Aided Design, AAS


96-98 Credits

Civil engineering designers and technicians work alongside engineers to provide technical support. They may be involved in everything from infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges and utilities to environmental and maritime projects. Students who excel in this program typically have good problem-solving skills, a flair for math and science, and have the ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, standards, and principles. The program uses previous examples of real projects from local engineering firm, giving the student real job like experience and training.

In these classes, the student will learn how to apply Civil 3-D program to create boundary lines, plats, road right-of-ways and roadway extents. They will learn techniques for road & lot construction in CAD. Students will learn how to manage points, point groups and the importing of points, then use the points to create digital terrain models (surfaces). Students will create horizontal alignments which will aid them in the process of creating road profiles. The student will analyze the surface and use the inclusion of break lines to edit the surface.

  3. Solve problems by referencing Residential and International building Codes applicable to the industry.
  4. Apply systems, symbols, and language applicable to the Civil Technology and Design Engineering industries.
