90-97 Credits

The Aviation Technology Associate of Applied Science program at Green River College prepares students for entry level jobs as commercial pilots, air traffic controllers, airline dispatchers, or aviation managers. Students choose one of the four option tracks dependent on their future career desires. All students experience a little of each track option in order to help them make a decision and to have a well-rounded education in aviation. This program directly transfers into the Bachelor of Applied Science - Aeronautical Science degree program.

Option 1: Commercial Pilot Track (97 credits) -

Throughout the commercial pilot program students will be required to get their Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating, and Commercial Pilot License. Students must complete their flight hours at a Part 141 flight school, the cost for the flight hours is in addition to the tuition and fees for this program. Graduates of Green River College’s Commercial Pilot program may be eligible for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certificate at 1,000 hours total time provided they completed their Commercial and Instrument Flight training and certification at an approved GRC Part 141 flight school. Students will need to obtain a valid 1st class medical certificate prior to starting their flight training. To find an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in your area go to https://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator

Option 2: Air Traffic Control Track (91 credits) -

Green River Aviation is one of 36 institutions selected by the FAA for the Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) program. The CTI program establishes an official partnership between the FAA and select aviation education programs. Green River recommends its students to the FAA for hire as air traffic controllers, granting students an advantage in the extremely competitive hiring process. Successful program completion and selection by the FAA can potentially feed directly into air traffic controller training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There are additional requirements students must meet beyond acceptance to Green River’s Aviation Technology program to participate in the CTI program. Go to www.faa.gov/jobs/students/schools for more information. Completing the ATC degree does not assure the FAA will hire the Green River AT-CTI graduate. Green River College has no influence over the FAA hiring process.  Students will need to obtain a valid 2nd class medical certificate prior to working as an Air Traffic Controller. To find an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in your area go to www.faa.gov/jobs/students/schools

Option 3: Airline Dispatch Track (91 credits) -

Administered under CFR Title 14, Part 65, students completing this track will be eligible to test for the FAA Aircraft Dispatchers Certificate. Students must be at least 21 years of age on or before the completion of the course in order to qualify for the dispatch test.

Option 4: Aviation Management Track (90 credits) -

This option track prepares students for entry level jobs at airports or airlines of all sizes across the United States.
