SOC& 201 - Social Problems

Introduces the study of social problems within cultures, with a primary focus on American society. Examines issues such as social inequality, crime, drug abuse, family violence, population growth and environmental destruction using sociological theories, reasons and possible remedies.

Prerequisite: Eligible for ENGL& 101 or instructor’s permission.

Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Analyze contemporary social problems from various lenses and perspectives.
Demonstrate practical understanding of the complexity and controversy surrounding seemingly straightforward social problems.
Demonstrate how social responsibility, awareness, and critical ability are needed to assess and tackle interconnected national and global social problems.
