WWT 185 - Municipal Wastewater Treatment 1

Gives an overview of the purpose, operation and maintenance of municipal wastewater treatment plant processes including preliminary treatment, primary treatment, trickling filters and rotating biological contractors.

Prerequisite: MATH 072, MATH 097 or eligible for MATH 097; ENGL 081, ENGL 099, ENGL 109 or ENGL& 101 or eligible for ENGL 099.

Course Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

Describe sources and characteristics of wastewater.
Interpret regulations affecting operation of wastewater treatment plants.
Describe the purpose and operation of wastewater treatment process units.
Perform calculations related to process control of wastewater treatment processes.

Identify characteristics of wastewater conveyed and treated in municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Monitor, evaluate and adjust processes used in municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Monitor, evaluate, operate and maintain common types of equipment found in municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Apply appropriate safety procedures to operation of municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Collect samples for, perform and interpret results of basic laboratory analyses used to monitor municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
Perform supporting administrative duties for municipal wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
